Jeff Smith, better known around these parts as “Smitty,” knows that you just don’t email 10,000 people. “One thing I learned early on with email, because you know, Smitty’s Notes is an email/website tandem project, is that people are very sensitive to how much email traffic they get,” he says. That’s why Smitty Note’s, his infamous newsletter touting the little known events of Winston-Salem that need to be known, is sent out only twice a month. However email isn’t the only way Jeff connects the community. He also builds his bridges the old fashioned way – by talking to folks and hosting occasional networking dinners, Evening with Eight – Plus Smitty!. And while a recent multiple sclerosis diagnosis may have tempered his step, it certainly hasn’t his hindered his enthusiasm for the community. “I learned that an early age that Winston-Salem is a very unique city…it’s hard for me to put my finger on it. Why I like it so much.”

What do you like about wearing a skirt?: “Uh, different! Very, very different.”
