Eric Kerchner lives “Healthier Ever After.”

“I have an enchanted forest, but how do I make it come to life?” It’s a question Eric asked himself when he signed on as the executive director of the Children’s Museum last November, and one he answered when he contracted the first traveling exhibit to appear at the museum this October. “Healthier Ever After” is a 1500 square foot, interactive exhibit focusing on children’s health, nutrition, and exercise. “With one in four children qualifying as obese in North Carolina, this is our way to reach out and address the issue in a fun, engaging way,” he says. A Wake Forest alumnus, Eric came to the museum from the Tryon Fine Arts Center in Western, NC. “When I first got here, parents told me they thought the museum was always the same – they wanted it to be more hands-on, and that’s what we’re trying to do,” he says.

Eric’s favorite thing about wearing a skirt? “The actor side of me comes out and I can play a role. It’s very liberating.”

His favorite thing about reading skirt!? “I have no idea what women want, so every little bit of information helps.”
