Rule Play

For most of my life, I’ve stuck pretty close to the gridiron, my actions often earning me the much-hated, grade school nickname, “goody-two-shoes.” Yes, I was that girl. Though many people saw it as following the rules, I felt I was just following my nature. In truth, I like fair. I like boundaries. I like knowing what I can and cannot do. But I’m fast learning that (surprise!) life isn’t fair. And playing by the rules? Not all it’s cracked up to be. If we, as women, always played by the rules, where would we be? I certainly wouldn’t be here, living my dream job with skirt!, and come November, none of us would have a voice in choosing our country’s next leader. All in all, following the rules can be highly overrated. I, for one, plan on doing a lot less of it in the future.
